From the readings I have read, he didn't seem likely to be re-elected as a President and was only made to be what he is because of his death. What are your oppinions?

His main claims to fame were the Bay of Pigs and Marilyn Monroe. His reputation was of a man afraid to take a position because he had won the presidency by such a narrow margin. As to whether he would have won a second term -- who knows? Bill Clinton did, so I guess anything's possible.
