dieselnation,
Had that happen to me, took me about an hour to get it open, thought about drilling, prying, breaking out tail light. This will not help, at least in my case. These cars are not easy to break into.
The plastic part of the vacuum actuator came loose.
But, tuned key COUNTERCLOCKWISE, applying pressure with the key (do not break the key) holding trunk lid down as you do this.
Push in button, with pressure applied with the key, lift up on trunk lid and see if it comes open.
It may take several tries to do this.
After you get it open, examine the latch and plastic lever.
After I got it open, I modified my latch.
What I did was take out the latch assembly, drilled a hole 3/16" and made me a pull rod with a finger loop out of gas welding rod.
That way at least you can get it open, OR if someone gets locked in the the trunk, who knows why, IT can be opened from the inside!
Figured it would be cheaper to break out the tail light assymbly than destroy the trunk lid.
