The key to these diesels is to make sure they've
always had the oil changed every 3,000 miles. Auto tranny replacement MAY be on the horizon...but when I had it done it only ran $1,500...the ONLY really big expense I've had in ten years with this car.
Rust is the only really big worry...one indication of just how remarkable and robust these autos are is this website, and the fact that an ENORMOUS body of knowledge as to symptoms, problems, fixes, etc., has evolved over 20 years. This just doesn't happen with "disposable" vehicles.
