About a decade ago BMW-AG put out a study covering several products, including Slick 50. Apparently Slick 50's "active" ingredient - Teflon (PFTE)- was found to degrade when exposed to temperatures present on gasoline engine cylinder walls. The principle degradation product? HYDROFLUORIC ACID, which adversely affected internal engine components; BMW reported measurable deterioration of iron-based piston rings.
