Unhappy Funky gauge readings..

So my oil pressure gauge was not returning to zero with motor off.

I had a spare cluster, pulled the temp, fuel and OP cluster out, checked all the solder joints, swaped bulbs, and stuck it in my cluster.

The good news(i guess) is the oil pressure gauge moves much faster than mine, pegs 3 bag at 900rpm and holds a hair under 2bar at idle hot.

The not so good, is that my previous fuel gauge was showing, 130 miles since fill up, just about the 3/4 tank mark, either a hair above or below the line. The current gauge is showing between half a tank and about 1/4 of an inch to the right of the 1/2 mark. That's a pretty significant difference.

The temp gauge, which was rideing just right previously, about 1/4 inch above the 80, is now dead on 80, a good ten degres difference, and not right acording to every photo I've seen of OM617's normal operating temp.

Couple questions related to this little venture.

1. IS THERE a spec to test, probibly at the sending unit's plug with a resistor of some value or another, the fuel gauge? The thing works of resistance, there SHOULD be a spec of a given Ohm resistor one could stick in there and see how far there gauge is off. Ditto the tank sender. I'm going to check though my manuals, but I don't recall seeing it before. If for some reason there is NOT one, darn it we should start testing and decide on one, to give a 1/2 tank reading maybe? Has to be a way.

2. The temp gauge, same as above mostly.

THIS is why I almost always have aftermarket mechanical gauges. You simply cannot trust OEM stuff, even VDO, who I knew were inacurate from my VW experence, especially there electric OP gauges.

Haveing spent most of the night monkeying around with this, and it just started raining, I'm not perticularly pleased.

3. Is it posible to swap JUST the oil pressure portion of one of these gauges? I can't even get a needle off.

Advice?
