update from me:

I had an all stock setup from the becker europa through the paper speakers that were stock. I added in a kenwood WOOX self enclosed and powered sub in the rear drivers side footwell. Was nice sound, but I thought that I wanted a bit better sound in the front.

I got a set of pioneer ts-a1057 speakers, as they are a nice model. I just installed them today. Theyre a little high, but i have a dash coverlay, so I dont have to screw the speaker grilles in all the way in order to have it look good; in fact, the grilles look more flush with my dash coverlay now.

These speakers definitely have clearer sound, but I am not sure if theyre really right for the dash location. The really nice tweeter I believe bounces a bit too much off the windshield, making treble a bit too much/too sharp. Turn it down via the radio, and then the poor sound controls on the 21 year old radio kind of distort the sound. Bias the sound to the rear, and it sounds better, but then there isnt enough high-end.

I think itll just take a bit more tweaking to find it right. with the car off, it sounds really good, I think the actual issue is the sound contamination from road noise, etc.

And I think my ears are sensitive from trying to listen too hard today when working on it. If I rest them overnight, Ill probably get a better grasp of how good the sound actually is. (yes, ears need rest too!)
