Base 84 coupe was $21,800 OEM list price. There were not all that many options on a 300D really.

And there technicaly was no 83, the 82 was a C3, the 84 was a C4. I think there may have been a few hundred sold as 83's, but not enough to count. A base 82 C3 was $18,290.
This is still a signficant defference compareing the overal complexity and nature of a corvette compared to what is really a pretty basic car like the 300D. And a 300D like mine was not even an S class, just a step up from the basic 240D, which was not cheap itself. Still seems to me the newer one's are proportionatly lower priced overall compared to way back when.
Probibly because nobody would buy them with the likes of Lexus and company selling so relativly cheap. But anyway..
