As far as I know there is not a high oil temp switch on these vehicles which would stop it from cranking until it cools down. However the starter solenoid is often very affected by hi temps as it is close to the exhaust and can cause your symptoms.

The problem with running a little warm, can be related to the radiator and other cooling system components. Did you bring those items along with the engine and tranny? With the temp gauge between 80 and 90, though, you are in about the same area many on this board report as normal..
