I had a similar experience using Shell. After filling up the tank full, my fuel gauge behaved wildly! It sat right "down" and the Orange "Empty" indicator light was on. It went back to normal - right on full, no light on - after a few minutes of driving.

I drove the car until I had a 1/4 tank left. Started using Sunoco exclusively from that point on and I haven't used anything else. The frightening, "may have to change fuel sending units," occurence never happened again!

My best friend had a 2002 C230K Coupe. He used Esso exclusively for 2 years and didn't have any problems. Try doing a search - you should stumble upon numerous posts regarding this topic.
