Evan, to the best of my knowledge the dealer's Service Department will only perform warranty repairs that you bring to their attention, as opposed to diligently inspecting your vehicle for problems before the warranty expires and addressing them free of charge.
Here's where the difference in dealers comes in. Some will and some won't. The tech at my dealership went over my ML430 with a fine tooth comb looking for leaks etc on my last warranty vist. They know of all the problems associated with each model if they do much warranty work. On my last vist he found an engine oil leak and a transmission leak and fixed them both under warranty.
My dealerships sevice department has been very proactive in fixing problems that have not been brought to their attention during my over four years of ownership. Just my 2 cents.
