Yeah, recommended by MB to use an "oil sucker" like what they use on inboard boat motors to change oil. It goes all over the place if you pull the drain plug, some people have devised ways of channelling the oil into a pan, but recommended way is oil extraction, do a search on some of the info on the boards, or I can help link you to the info.
If you simply pull the plug it gets all over the frame rail, crossmember, engine mounts, etc and can cause problems, most degrades/swells the rubber components, like the engine mounts and so forth.
