I don't remember how much my tie rod end puller cost. I've probably had it 35 years or so. Of course, my puller requires practice and experience, but it never fails for me. It also makes a great ball peen hammer for other chores.

If you whack the Pitman arm or spindle arm just right, the taper will shrink enough to blow that tie rod out with great force. In fact if you don't leave the nut slightly screwed on, the tie rod might damage something when it shoots out.
