Yes, the old A6 might have been the best compressor for it's time. You're right, the weight made no difference in the days of $.25 per gallon gas and no CAFE programs to have to deal with. The added weight would be completely intolerable today.

Adding to that, I expect that the R4 was cheaper to build, but I might be way off target on that.
