A rough shifting tranny could be a number of things.. My inital thought would be a vacuum leak, 2nd, a bad modulator valve..3rd, someone is trying to hide a bad trans by cranking the hell out of the mod valve resulting in Very high line pressure (hiding slippage etc..)

Ask him if bits like the door locks etc work.. Also, where is the economy gauge when the car is idling in D. It should be sitting at zero if All is well.
