I got stung by one exactly like that one in Oklahoma while camping at the Wichita Mountain Wildlife Refuge. It was emergency room time. It not only hurt like living torture, like a hot poker permentantly shoved into your skin, I vomited for two days straight, and on top of that the bite got infected and I spent a week in the hospital with IVs shooting straight antibiotics into me. One bite itself is not bad enough to kill you, but those critters are crawling around in places full of the worst germs. From my experience, the number one habit to get into is checking your shoes. Your shoe looks exactly like a scorpion's idea of a dream house. I was lucky - it only bit me once, before I had the old sneaker tied. Some people get their shoe all the way on and then that mofu stings the living **** out of them.
