Mercedes has been doing it for years. If you were sitting at a stop light behind an early 60 220S, the trunk doesn't inform you that it is a 220Sb. I have an old car sitting in my garage that says 280SE on the trunk, but bein that it is a 71 3.5 SEC, I think it is worth a few dollars more than a 4 door 280SE. Trust me. MB does this. If you still need proof, I'll have to burn a copy out of one of the MB manuals.
