Jorg, they are a black rubber cap that sits atop the spring and fits into the spring cup of the car's frame/chassis. The nubs are visable at the lower end of the pad (spring side). The nub(s) are repeated three times around the pad so that they will be visable irregardless of how the pad is rotated when installed. Should you need pads or wish to change what is already there, they are sold by the dealer rather cheaply (around US$3-4/ea). I will also shamelessly plug those I have for sale (see E-bay item 7924010193). They are left over from a lowering spring install and were part of the final tweaking to get the height where I wanted it. The fronts I have are the thicker ones which may work for you to raise your car slightly. Good luck!
