Ron.. You will find this is normal. Some owners place a terrycloth towel around the window, but this is a royal pain. Some owners only do this while storing the soft top while the hardtop is installed.

To me, the soft top is a wear item, akin to tires. You have to budget for a replacement top every 7 years (more or less) of service. Of course, on the R129 the rear portion of the soft top can be replaced independently of the front portion. Some owners have removed the rear portion, have the windows replaced, then the original rear portion with replaced windows re-installed.
