Heh; I got 20 missing pounds that say cutting carbs work. Cutting fat works as well, but the secret is that it's much more difficult to stick to a low-fat diet because you feel deprived. Low carb diets leave you feeling sated, so from that standpoint they're much easier to stick to.
I fully expect to have cholesterol problems shortly, though, as it runs on both sides of my family, regardless of obesity (or lack thereof).
