I just had my '87 300D W124 up to 105 last weekend
It was still begging for more. Just a little more maybe but it wasn't out of headroom yet. Of course we are talking a W124 with great aerodynamics and a lighter body that an SD and a different ratio differential (also 6 cylinders) it's rated to 115 MPH but still it has a 2.996 liter engine.
There was a post by someone on the 'Forum that had a picture of a speedometer at 115 MPH I believe it was in So. Cal, a W124 diesel I think.
