I took the old monovalve out this weekend and sure enough, the rubber diaphram was torn. Replaced it with one from Fast Lane. Now my heater works uniformly whether I'm driving of idling.

Not much trouble. Kind of hard to get at screws in back. Took about 15 minutes.
