To avoid damaging engine timing components, such as the chain tensioned and guilds you should always turn the engine in the direction of engine rotation only, the timing chain components were designed to operate in one direction only; and that is engine rotation. I have seen motors with worn timing belts jump timing. Because of the fluid coupling effect, you can a turn the engine and torque converter in park.
