My accelerator pedal ('86 300E) requires 1-2" of depression before it encounters the linkage resistance for throttle movement. In other words, nothing happens for the first inch or so.

Before I begin trying to adjust this slack out of the throttle linkage, would appreciate any suggestions re. how much of this slack is 'normal' and any tips on optimizing idle linkage adjustments? Also, I'm wondering whether component wear is a possibility, or is this condition strictly an adjustment problem?
Thanks for your help, Barrie
