I have all-season tires. I had no problems driving on snow-covered roads (about 2 inches of compressed snow) in Boston. I never got stuck. Sure, you have to slow down and keep distance, but nevertheless I do not see why I should buy dedicated snow tires. Expeccially I do not have storage room for extra tires/rims (I do not want to put them in our closet).
