Glow Plug Light goes out too quickly

Howdy, Ive been getting to know my 82 300D over the last few weeks and am still having a tough time starting the car in the morning, here in Florida, where it hasnt been below 50 in weeks. The engine turns over fine, but I have to keep the RPMs up for at least 5 minutes to hold an idle.

I replaced all Glow Plugs and Fuel Filters several days ago and nothing changed in the starting. Im thinking, based on what Ive read here about glow plugs that the problem may have something to do with the fact that the glow plug light stays lit for maybe all of 2 seconds. Every time. Thats too short, right? My relay fuse is fine, compression is strong, and I think the valves are adjusted based on how strong the motor sounds.

Any ideas out there would be appreciated?

Roy
