Throttle has been around much longer than throttle bodies. In fact, most kickdown cables on older domestics were usually called TV cables (throttle Valve).
Here's what my desktop dictionary states:
Throttle
Noun: throttle
1. A valve that regulates the supply of fuel to the engine
2. A pedal that controls the throttle valve
Verb: throttle
1. Place limits on
2. Squeeze the throat of
3. Reduce the air supply; of carburetors
It's the second verb I'm concerned with.
