My dad's tranny on the 83 was leaking horribly recently, it went from bone dry to literally drooling out of the back area of the tranny, so we took it to a local guy down the street, he claimed it was the pan/pan gasket. So we let him do the fluid/filter/pan gasket change, and now it no longer leaks even a drop. So he was right.
