THANKS TO TOMS AND RANDY FOR YOUR REPLIES. I'VE VISITED THE MFI SITE YOU MENTION TOMS ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS BEFORE.SHAME IT'S JUST FOR 911'S. IT WOULD BE GREAT IF SOMEONE COULD DO THE SAME FOR THE MERC MFI. ANYHOW, TODAY I DECIDED TO INVESTIGATE THE PUMP. AFTER TAKING OFF THE PIPE UNIONS[BETWEEN TOP FACE OF PUMP AND INJECTOR PIPES][BE CAREFUL , THERE IS A SPRING INSIDE SO DON'T LOSE IT} YOU WILL FIND WHAT LOOK LIKE THE ENDS OF INJECTORS STARING AT YOU. THESE ARE THE CHECK VALVES WHICH KEEP FUEL FROM FLOWING BACK INTO THE PUMP [ LATER VERSIONS HAVE A BALL BEARING AND SPRING TO DO THE SAME ]AND KEEP FUEL IN THE INJECTOR PIPES TO AVOID AIR LOCKS. I CAREFULLY PULLED THESE OUT WITH A PAIR OF LONG NOSED PLIERS, TAKING CARE NOT TO DAMAGE THEM.MOST WERE STUBBORN AND WOULD NOT COME OUT EASELEY. THEY ARE ABOUT 5/8ths OFAN INCH LONG AND SHAPED LIKE A FOUR FLUTED THREAD TAP SMOOTHED AT THE SIDES WITH A SMALL CONE SHAPE AT THE TOP END. THESE HAD SOME CORROSION ON THEM WHICH I BELIEVE MADE THEM STICK AND CAUSE THE SYMPTOMS MENTIONED IN MY EARLIER THREAD. I REMOVED THE CORROSION [ MINUTE AMOUNTS BUT ENOUGH TO CAUSE PROBLEMS ] WITH A SPECIAL ABRASIVE BLOCK THAT IS MUCH MORE FINER THAN EVEN 1500 WET AND DRY. AFTER PUTTING EVERYTHING BACK TOGETHER AND BLEEDING THE INJECTOR PIPES HEY PRESTO THE ENGINE STARTED!!! A BIT OF BLACK SMOKE AT FIRST BUT THIS EVENTUALY STARTED TO CLEAR. I HOPE TO BE ABLE TO CHANGE THE SEALS BUT MORE ON THIS LATER.
