paduka the reason people keep sudjesting an intercooler is the key to getting power out of a turbo charged diesel is to keep the EGT's down. An intercooler lets you crank up the boost and fuel without melting the pistons. In bone stock form the stock trubo is more then capible of over boosting the engine and the stock IP could probably keep up for a bit.

I would start with a straight larger exhuast, then find and intercooler that would fit and start from their.

But being an old car expect to break driveline parts if you start pumping up the power. I would replace the flex discs, drive shaft support bearing, diff mount, trans mount, and engine mounts as you are doing the exhuast.

What the members of the forum are trying to say is that their really is no practical way to get any real power out of these cars. Unless you want to put massive amounts of time and money into them like our Finish friends did. Besides they seem to do more with 603/606's and not much with the old 617's. Even if you do get the hp up to around 200 a stock Maxima will run away from you. Not to mention a stock E320CDI and E300D. These are not good platforms to get performance and speed out of.

Oh and this is the forum to ask in, none of the other MB forums have anywhere near the knowledge on these engines.
