Also be careful when checking your oil if you're using synthetic oil. These oils stick to the engine parts so well that you really have to let the car sit for a long time before you check the oil level. At least that has been my experience. I once parked my 300SD on level ground and after waiting for two hours, I checked the oil and it was in the middle of the "ok" range. Then after letting it sit for an additional 7 hours (this was from 9am to around 4 pm) I checked the level again and it was at the top of the "ok" range. So you really have to let the oil run down to the pan. This was using Amsoil 15W-40 oil.
