I just did this on my '88 300CE. It was a snap. I used a pipe wrench to loosen the large nut. After unpluging the sending unit it then just lifts out. I got the part from ********e in AZ (***************). Part was only $40. Free shipping over $50, so I got a dist car and rotor as well. Good luck.
