Generally speaking, diesel rated oils do one thing better than non-diesel rated oils, non meaning gas engine acceptable, high levels of detergents that maintain in suspension, dirt, or in a diesels case, soot!

Dirt and soot are filtered through an oil filter, filtered to the point no more can the filter adequately remove from the blood steam, (oil stream) dirt and soot!

To add, synthetic oils, yes they are superior, generally are used to extend drain intervals. Few people actually use synthetic oil to extend actual engine life!

Oil changes at 5,000 miles instead of 3,000 miles. It's a matter of weights and balances, cu tom to you!
