Jim,

Yes, the resistor looks like a coil. The temp sensor I'm speaking of is the blue one on the head. On the M103 engine it's located just under the air cleaner. My understanding of the fans is that they kick in a low speed, then a higher speed when warmer. Mine do just the opposite, so I assume I hooked something up backward. It doesn't make sense to me either. My mechanic said (when in for the head gasket) said the freon is fine.
I'm doing a road trip this afternoon, so I won't tear into it until the weekend...
