The Big one

Actually I asked a friend of mine who works at UCLA precisely that question. ie wether or not the big one might be on the way. There is a model by one UCLA researcher which is being looked at with some interest by the USGS and the California Geological Survey. But although the model suggests a fairly large quake, "somewhere" in SoCal in the relatively near future, it's still not refined enough to be a good predictor. Remember that with increased frequency of smaller quakes much of the energy that's stored in faults is released which is likely to reduce the likelyhood of a super large quake in the near future.
