Back in the day we used Crossman 760's and 766, we found that if you did not pump the BB gun you could dry fire it with your finger over the barrel and get multiple BB's in the barrel sort of like a BB gun buckshot, which worked on grouse if you could get close enough.

Well in my dizzy early teens I seemed to have forgot that I pumped the BB Gun and shot a hole clean through my finger. My mother was mega pissed but my Great Granda Mother was staying with us whom my mother worshiped the ground she walked on said "Now there don't be bad boys will be boys" and I was off the hook.
