I just bought a 91 e300te 4matic. It does not start and here what I have found so far. Car needs a head gasket! Car cranks and cranks but does not start. The previous owner stated that it ran and each time he had to jump it. He replaced the battery and then the car will not start. My hunch is the alternator has a short and drains anything that connects to it. I put jumpers to it and a battery pack. It started two times and then stalled. This was only with the battery pack (900amp). The owner replaced the battery with a Napa brand and cranking amps 875 cold cranking amps is 700. I do not know if this meets the specs but the battery as soon as you disconect it goes dead from any power source. Any suggestions would be great. Happy 4th.
