Exactly where is the source of the "spitting"? I know for some, cars sitting idle for long periods without proper long term storage procedures will have seals chemically break down and wear out. Once started, the seals fail, and thus leaks occur.

I blew oil seals on my 73 Bug when a temporary storage extended into 5 years! Other problems soon followed, from corroded terminals with mineral deposits, to ruined carburetor internals due to varnished gas...all due to improper storage!

I know of a lady with a 500SL that drove her car so rarely, that it required a replacement of a water pump at least three times!
