Yeah below 27mph it will drop to first, I experienced that before, WOW
is that a feeling of engine braking, it practically drags the rear wheels!
I also go between S and D all the time.
Usually its: blinker, drop gear selector, switch lanes, roar past person, other blinker/merge back in, and move back to D
