i found the charcoal canister finally. for everybody's info, its located behind the front left wheel arch liner for w124, 220E.

To access it, jack up the car a bit so u have some clearance to work with. the are a couple of nuts and 1 screw, loosen it and the cover will come off. you will then see the canister, its pretty big.
