Amex was trying to hold his feet to the fire. I wrote a couple letters and was researching who to sue when the feds raided the Gold Club for a bunch of gangster type stuff including several allegations of what happened to my bud.

Amex backed off at that point.
I've heard similar stories on more than one occasion and I have to think that Amex is somehow involved. Whenever I make an out of character purchase with my amex plat IE online thats one card that I'll never use online they will call to verify charges. I know they do it for almost everyone I've known that uses Amex.
