Happened to a buddy of mine at the Gold Club in Atlanta, (IIRC) he ran up a pretty big bill, by his account 3-4k, they brought him a bill for about 20k. He asked if they were out of their dmn mind, they brought him into the back room and made it clear he should sign. He's thinking "hey, I've got a platinum AMEX, no big deal, I'll dispute" signs the bill and goes.

Amex was trying to hold his feet to the fire. I wrote a couple letters and was researching who to sue when the feds raided the Gold Club for a bunch of gangster type stuff including several allegations of what happened to my bud.

Amex backed off at that point.
