I don't recall exactly what state titled that rebadged 420, (I think it was purchased in California and brought to Seattle) but here in Virginia, titles usually only list the make and body style, so if it says 'MERCEDES 4D SEDAN' on the title, it could mean a 4-cylinder 230 or a 6.9 450SE.

Even so, you'd hope that a prospecive buyer would have the sense to pop the hood on a car he's going to be shelling out THAT much money for.
Although, more cash than brains seems to be a fairly common affliction these days.
