Biodiesel-Any long term effects of SVO??
Fascinated with the idea of biodiesel,primarily because I have access to a potentially unlimited supply of SVO.
Can anyone out there speak with authority and experience on this? Particularly are there any long term effects or damage to the engine and related components,I,E, does the stuff form a gummy residue that will affect rings, seals and injection pump components? Will long term use cause "coking"in the cylinders?

You might ask at biodieselnow.com for clarification, however biodiesel has no such issues you cite as issues with WVO. Biodiesel is chemically converted from vegetable oil, and has no viscosity or polymerizing issues that WVO has.
The problems you cite with coking that are associated with burning vegetable oil were found on older direct injection engines burning cold oil. The Mercedes engines like the 617 are indirect injection and will not get any unburned fuel into the cylinder where it can coke. As long as the oil is properly heated before burning it, you should have zero issues in a Benz. Biodiesel Now Forums

I am not sure anyone really can answer that. Search for iodine value or number and epoxy.
The people who want to sell you fuel system heaters will answer yes.
