Found a WVO source!

Talked to a local chines food place and they've agreed to give me their WVO, putting it into their containers for me to pick up! I'm not sure how much I'll get, and will likely seek out another source as well. I'm excited about trying this out, I think it will work well with the climate here in PHX AZ.

So, can someone recommend a source for getting a plastic barrel for storing and settling the WVO? I was thinking of starting with a 30 gal barrel for starters, building a platform for it to sit on and let it sit outside in the sun to warm it and aid in settling out solids, etc. What about sources for filters, etc?

I plan on running a mixture of WVO/RUG/Cetane Boost as discussed elsewhere on the forum.

Anyone else in the PHX area running WVO?

Thanks,

Adam

congratulations

spend time setting up a good filter and dewater station. That is the most important thing no mater how you go about using the oil as fuel.

Check with your local Car Washes......

The soap they use comes in 55 Gal. barrels and will usually give them away.

ajohnson,

For your settling barrel, put a spigot thru the side of the barrel about 2 inches from the bottom. Then when the WVO has settled, just open the spigot and the clean oil will drain out and the crap will remain in the bottom of the barrel.

I set mine up so I drain the WVO from the settling barrel spigot thru a filterbag into another container. It all works on gravity so is very reliable.

30gl. Barrel

Im in East Texas and there is a barrel dealer on every corner it seems. Plastic, steel you name it. The one I chose for my onboard tank is a 15gl. Dr Pepper syrup barrel. I can send a pic if you have an interest.

I picked up 5-55gl barrels for my collection (over zealous I am) and the funny thing about it I filled them with WVO the 2nd day I had them. Gave a freind 55gl. for helping me plumb my 240 D.

Lesson learned: the 55gl barrel is a heavy thing. It was everything we could do to get a 55gl barrel on the trailer, after we filled them. I had my 13 year old with me and it was hot and it stunk. We won!!!

My advice is 30gls. or smaller and take a strong freind. I now try to find a grease source that enables me to back my trailer close enough to my source that I never take a barrel off my trailer. I drop my manual hand crank transfer pump into the storage barrels at the resturaunt and transfer oil into the tanks on my trailer.

They are getting hard to find here but there is a 55gl steel barrel that has 3 bung holes in it. 1-2" bung on the top and another 1" bung on the top. It also has a 2" bung on the side at the bottom. This is a great barrel for the gravity filter system that P.E. spoke of. The bung on the side is about two or three inches from the bottom and it is a threaded bung hole. Great for your spigot

Where to get barrels in NM. Good question. Try your soft drink distributors anyone that would have a concentrate that fills those cannisters for fountain drinks. I found that you need to be careful with some of the soap containers because some contain ethlyl luvilate (fragrance) and it has a flash point. Not a good thing when used with a spark or torch. Never cut into a barrel unless you know what was in it and then be careful.

I never get to reply so I just unloaded.
