Mike Briggs is on top of it, and has the know-how to actually get somewhere with an algal program. He's pretty active over at the http://www.biodieselnow.com forums, where he's posted a LOT more information about algae feasability and other issues.
peace, sam

Anyone else see the irony?
Biodiesel, the alternative fuel to reduce oil consumption then we change the oil twice as much in a diesel engine and more of it!

Let me guess, the article is promoting the use of diesel engines in order to reduce our reliance on foreign oil, BUT if we change to all diesel automobiles the savings will be offset because diesel engines need more frequent oil changes and generally have greater oil capacity. Am I right?

As usual, those who don't use something attempt to denigrate it. Biodiesel produces far less soot that dyno diesel meaning longer intervals between oil changes. My lab tested the oil from my 1985 300td Wagon at 5k miles and found that it contained less particulate matter than when I tested it with dyno diesel at 3k miles. Combine this with synthetic motor oil and I normally go 8k between oil changes. I have more than 100,000 miles on my engine using this combination over 3 years with no oil consumption and no problems.
Don't judge if you don't know. |

The biggest thing us alt. fuel folk can do for the world right now is to educate those around us that this fuel cell thing is more hype than reality. The numbers dont add up.
This hype of course is an advantage to the oil/fuel industry cause the way it looks now each attempt to make fuel cells work as a transport fuel will have some level of failure and delay the addition of substantial alt. fuel use in our country.

Where can I start one of these algea ponds?
I wanna get in on this ground floow opportunity. Let's all get together and buy some land in the desert and build an algea farm.
We can then make Veggie Oil and soon We'll have soooo much veggie oil that industry will have to make BioDiesel to sell because we'd have an oil surplus. Marty http://www.benzbonz.biz |

If you change your oil in a gasser before 5000 miles your wasting your money. Unless you drive in extreme conditions of course.
Diesels on dino fuel go 3000 miles and hold more oil. I was shocked when I found out my diesel held 3 gallons of oil! Danny
