Get a phone book. Look up fuel filters in the yellow pages. Call them and see if they have 'bag' filters. They come in 2 lengths- 16" and 32". They cost about $3 each. You can get them in almost any micron size you need.

Cut a 6 to 7' hole in the top of a 55gal drum and let the filter hang inside. Pour in your wvo. Get a hand crank drum pump from Harbor Freight. Set the suction a few inches from the bottom of the drum so you won't such any sludge.

You can use 2 drums. One with a 20+ micron filter and the other with a 5 or less micron filter.

Unless you want to wash your wvo with caustic stay away from fast food fry oil. It has fat in it that will clog the bag filters. The best is oil from Chinese restaurants.

Thumbs up Good advice!

That sounds good to me .
I found a great source for WVO at a small Japaneese restaurant here. They use 100% soybean oil; for tempura only; and fry no meat! I took a small sample today and it is golden brown and pretty clear and like no sediment.
I will check out the Y pages for filterbags and only drums I could find are $20. each from an oil company 1/2 hour away. I don't think they will fit in the trunk????

The micron ratings of those bags are assuming the bags are supported. Just hanging them will stretch them out and increase the micron size of particles allowed to pass. Put them in a stove pipe or PVC pipe with a bottom on it, or create some wire mesh cage orrr???

I have to scrape gravy out of my bags, not a big deal. WVO has been hard to come by in my area. I can't be picky about where I get my oil, as long as I get some.

Red face

Luckily I can get some nice WVO; I will try the support of the bags with mesh/ pipe (good ideas); once I find some; There were no local sources; so I'll have to web shop; I probably will start this w/o 55 gal. drums and use 35 gal trash pails...
