Thumbs up 2nd Day on WVO in 300D- no mods...

Just cause it feels great...
Ran my 2nd day with my 85 300D-T today on blend of 1 part RUG to 4parts WVO and no modifications single tank;
runnin' great;
I did have to change fuel filters this AM; the primary ; don't know how long it was on prior to me owning it; was clogged and black on the inside;
(thanks; Matt300sd)
I Love the smell of Tempura in the morning!!!!
So far did about 55miles and no difference in the way she runs; other than the sweet smell of WVO and running my AC without having to care about my MPG!!!!

Any 300D owners interested in this It is easy!

Hi Joel!
RUG = Regular Unleaded Gas

FWIW all, I notice a distinct reduction in idle speed and off-idle performance when running straight WVO, not to mention a significant reduction in mileage.

Right on- I've been running WVO / Diesel blend for 3 months now- definate improvement in having more power and less noise. I had to change fuel filter once, but like yours, it was probably ready anyway- I don't believe it was the WVO that blocked the filter, as I pre-filter everything out to the point that my WVO is clear. I do see variations in color of my final WVO however- depending on what was fried in it I believe. The color variation does not seem to alter performance or behaviour. However, during a real recent hot spell, I thought I'd try some WVO in the tank which I could not get to come clear- too much tallow in it, although in the heat it seems to flow OK. The car runs on it, but the idle is rougher and there is a definate loss of power. This stuff has to be HOT, not just warm to run in the car effectively.

I've mentioned on a couple of threads that my car knocks quite badly when running on straight Diesel-- this started long before I started blending in the WVO. When I add WVO, the knock goes away, so it's like the WVO is acting as a good fuel conditioner, against whatever is causing this knock. I'm asuming I need new injectors- gonna get this verified this Friday. Meanwhile, the WVO is keeping the car drivable for me.

Unfortunately, I've lost my WVO supplier. The restaurant owner has decided to keep it for himself, since finding out it will also work for home heating. All other restaurants in my small town are giving their WVO away to a hog farmer to mix in with the feed. I've asked at every one of them- same story. What a waste!! One owner seemed interested when I told him I'm recycling it as an environmentally friendly fuel, and said he'd think it over and give me a call. Meanwhile, I have about 30 gallons of WVO left. When that is gone, I'm not sure what I'm going to do for a supply if he doesn't come through. There are several other small towns and one city within a 50 mile radius of me, so I guess I need to expand my hunt.

Good luck!

Dave

Welcome to the fold. I am also running a single tank system, though I inistalled a coolant-operated fuel heat exchanger.

I run 100% wvo right now - I will mix as weather cools.

So far I have 9000 miles in wvo. I drive 3000 miles a month and it saves me over $200 a month after expenses.

I also found a new supplier. There is a small place that makes frozen chinese food next to where I work. They have a 3/4 full dumpster that has been sitting for weeks with no new oil and it's settled and clean. This winter they said they will put it in cubies for me.

Red face

My idle speed seems OK . It's at 8K rpm... I don't care about the MPG because it doesn't matter anymore on WVO! That's the great thing... it's irrelavent .
NO War necessary!
And the filter clogs because WVO disolves stuff in the tank that diesel didn't after 20 years...

I feel like I should jump on the blend wagon. A bit cautious still. Maybe a two tank system is better.

I feel the same way, but I don't want to deal with two tanks...I am lazy.

What would be the some of the hazards in running RUG in a diesel engine ? Will you dissolve anything ? Anything would blow up ?

Do you guys mix well before pouring into the tank ?

Rug/wvo

1980 300 TD owners manual suggests adding kerosene or regular (not premium) gasoline to avoid malfunction in very cold weather if winterized diesel is not sufficient or not available It says not to exceed 30% gasoline.

Could someone explain what Kerosene is ? What's the difference between Kerosene and Diesel ? Between it and Gasoline ?

I know diesel isn't flammable at room temperature, would a mixture of 20%RUG80%WVO be flammable ? What if there is fuel leaks on the engine with this mixture spilling ?
