Attn WVOers:What ratio WVO to Diesel are you using on a one-tank system?

I'm interested in using WVO to cut the diesel in my 123. I don't really want to go to the trouble of a two-tank system. I'm a restaurant hood cleaner, and WVO is unlimited and free to me. Also, what would be a good homemade setup to filter the stuff. How will this affect my engine in the long run?

i have been looking into the blend for a while now, and just got my sources lined up and my barrels behind their place. so very soon i will be able to tell you my actual experiences.

for now i can just tell you what i have read, and all the blends that were recommended were not with diesel. i heard that if you use diesel with wvo you will have glycerin separation and that will cause headaches. depending on your climate and temps you should run 90% WVO and 10% Regular gas and a cetane boost(walmart has PowerService Cetane Boost). or you can do a 80% 20% and cetane. you can also use kerosene instead of RUG but then you better not be seen putting that in your car, because kerosene is not road taxed and illegal to use in your car. just dont tell anyone you use kerosene and say it is RUG.

i believe that you should also be able to blend with biodiesel since the glycerin has already been taken out and replaced with meth. not sure about this tho.

again, once i get going myself, i will be able to tell you lots more about what worked with my 300D and what was not so fun.

gosh where in NE ohio are you from. i just moved from Tallmadge,(akron area) to Arkansas to finish my last year of college. i was trying like heck to find anyone interested in biodiesel/WVO/SVO for the entire year, and now that i move, i find all these people that were super close to me.

my parents still live in Tallmadge, so i will drive my 300D up there serveral times. i can let you know when i am in the area if you want.

I'm using 30% WVO 70% Diesel. Starts fine, runs great.

Since people say not to mix diesel with WVO becuase of the buildup you will get, how do you initially fill your tank with fuel?

Can the WVO/RUG/Cetane blend mix with whatever diesel is in the tank allready with no problems?

I'm living in Canton right now (by no means "from" Canton). I work in Green. It's funny how many people from this forum live around these parts. Theres a nice looking SDL (86) in Wooster right now with a two tank conversion kit, 180k on the odo for only $3700. Wish I had the money. That's really what I want. David, how long have you been running it like that? Any clogging issues?

i will probably run my tank down to the reserve tank and possible out of fuel alltogether. then i will just bleed the system free of air and be ready to roll.

it will probably mix fine even if you have 1/2 a tank or so, but in the long run you could see some seperation. and even with 30% 70% mixture, you have way less WVO to have glycerin seperate. so as long as you watch your fuel filters, you should be fine.

does the sdl have ohio rust? someone else in the forum said this already, so i cant claim it mine, but "even a little rust is about as bad even a little pregnant."

It has a broken swaybar. Rusted a bit around the rear wheelwells.

Everything in that part of OH seems to be rusted. Especially the bridges. I lived in Youngstown for two years.

Anyway..... what ever your blend put some in a glass jar and sit it outside your window. That way you can watch it. See if anything settles out, See how much it gells in the outside air etc.

For what it is worth... IMHO go with 80veg and 20gas along with some diesel cetane boost additive. For winter install a coolant fuel heat exchanger made for diesels that see deep freeze weather. You want one that does NOT get the fuel as hot as the ones straight veg fuel people use. Ask for temprature max. the exhanger will get the fuel. Make sure this temp is BELOW what temp gasoline vaporizes. That way you don't get vapor lock. You cold also make this exchanger. BTW I have only heard of the vapor lock situation happening ONCE before. (at idle, using a super heat exchanger on a HOT southern US day)

I have an'85 300D-T; on blend for 750 miles. 1 tank.
Get oil that is not used to fry meats or chicken IF possible!!!!!!!!!!
Saves you alot of hassle....

As far as filtering...get a 55 gallon drum; cut the top off; get some chickenwire to cover the top, and let it set inside in a bowl shape like 1' deep.
I filter with a bed sheet (high thread count top sheet ) folded over 4X ; put over the wire to hold it's shape; Pour the wvo in slowly 5 gall. at a time; and wait....That's it.

btw I add cetane boost 2 oz and acetone 1-2oz per each 5 gallons blend...

I sold my car with the two-tank setup, so I've got extra WVO in the barrel. Just started using a 70% B100:30% WVO with a little Power Service thrown in for god measure. I let y'all know how things shake out.

I need to get going on burning the wvo. Right now I am purchasing B20 and running it. There is somewhat of a tax break on it so it is cheaper than pump diesel. Anyway, I have been soooo busy that it has not gotten to the point of being worth my time to burn it so far but I see the day coming. Anyway, I did collect some wvo from Zaxbys and it was pretty nasty. Am I to assume that the problem is with the filtering required to make wvo used to cook meat right prior to putting it in the tank?

I have found it to be a very good idea to let the oil sit a couple of days before I pour it into my "filtering system", or else there is still water left in suspension.
I also use white buckets...makes the water and other crud easy to spot.

I've mixed it anywhere from 10%oil/90 diesel - to - a 50/50 mix (was running late...no time to stop and buy fuel). Engine definitely quieter and smoother running. Still slow as molasses on take-off with the A/C on though
