Biodiesel prep:
Hi all. I am sure it has been asked before, but what am I in for If I decide to start routinely running B100 in my 82 300Sd? I have been reading about homebrew on veggieavenger.com and journeytoforever.org and it is really promising with the price of fuel the way it is.
What I want to know is, what is every possible part that could fail (due to the biodiesel, not it's cleaning power! ) and how much $$.. i.e. filters don't count. Thanks guys. Just trying to help the enviroment, (but mostly my wallet! ) Besides, those higher cetane numbers sound quite inviting.

Good question, sorry I have no answer!
I ran B-20 last spring, about four tank fulls, and it didn't harm anything that I'm aware of, but B-100 will likely loosen up years of sediment in your tank and saturate your filter quickly. While I don't see issues with injectors as a result of B-100, the IP, and primary fuel pump, may be subjective to possible failure, such as rubber O-rings and other seals. While the notion that B-100 may be cheaper than dino diesel soon, many here will no doubt be wondering the same? |

Second, read everything you can. Just like on this forum, you will get a good idea of the most valuable posters and their knowledge. The posters, girl Mark and a few others, are quite informing because of all their trial and error experiences. Good biodiesel should not harm any of your 617 innards. I changed my fuel lines to braided stainless covered teflon just because that is what I have always used. Every dollar that doesn't end up in the oil baron's pocket is a dollar well spent.
