I hate to disappoint you, but R. Diesel was trying to make the engine run on coal dust, but couldn't regulate the fuel (coal dust) mixture readily. He then tried "groundnut" (peanut) oil and managed to successfully opeate the engine on Peanut Oil, NOT WHale Oil.

When you get animal fats on your fingers, then stick them together and pull them apart, it's sticky, gooey, nasty. You don't want that stuff in your engine.

I'm still pretty new to using the blend, but the juice seems to help with the white startup smoke from the vegetable oil. I just love the way vegetable oil takes away the clackity-clatter and smooths out the engine.

I know

I know he was not trying to make the engine run on whale oil. But I believe it could run on whale oil and when you have 20 tons of it that the government is fighting over who should haul it off free every one wins the mess is gone you get a few hundred tanks full of fuel. Plus you get bragging rights at the local militia barbecue a 90 pond mamas boy would be looked on with respect for pulling that off. Besides it would be great fun when the code enforcement officer from the city dropped by with the fire department hazardous waste team, because your yard is packed with 55 gallon drums of whale oil. They have a code against every thing where I live but I bet they did not think to pass a code forbidding the possession of whale oil. Have a nice day sir and get off my land now. By the way if you get that much free high quilty oil it is worth the investment to install a good fuel system heating system the pay off will be quite quick.

Some elementary questions.

1. What kind of containers do you pick up the WVO in? And how many do you use?

2. When pre-filtering it, do you use "clean" containers for the filtered WVO?

3. How have you eased any health department concerns from the business owners over the collection of the WVO?

4. What kind of feedback has anyone receieved from the companies who had been picking up the WVO?

5. How do you transport the WVO?

Plastic 5gal drums that had soy sauce, and ginger in them. 3-4

Of course.

3. How have you eased any health department concerns from the business owners over the collection of the WVO?
No biz owners mentioned any concerns....

4. What kind of feedback has anyone receieved from the companies who had been picking up the WVO?
Why would anyone have feedback form a collector?????

5. How do you transport the WVO?
By car in the trunk....of a WVO powered car....

Everything I've read about Rudolph agrees with Tonys statement.

Never heard a thing about whale oil.

Cheers,

Bill

I actually went grease gathering for the first time last night and i got the origial grease cubies from the trash dumpster next to the grease bin. Only was able to find 2 with the caps on them. I removed the lid from the grease bin and dipped in a 5 gal bucket and then pourded into a funnel into a cube.

I pour from the grease cube through a t-shirt and filter combo into a clean 5 gallon bucket - then from bucket into gas can - then into car. I'm expecting better filters in the mail anyday so my filtering method will get better. Only takes about 10 mins to have 5 gallons of WVO/RUG fuel mixed and in car.

In the trunk of my 89 diesel jetta - allready smells like diesel fuel so if i get grease in it i don't care - just secure them somehow so they don't spill. I wedged the cubes in with my sub box.

I had gotten my inital WVO from a friend who works for a catering company so this was a new experience for me - very fun. Just becareful how you get the grease from the bin. If you don't have a pump and use the bucket method like i did - you are sure to spill some grease so be careful. First off you don't want to make a mess so the people don't let you come back - second the grease is very slick! I almost fell last night. What i did was grab cardboard from a dumpster and put it all around the grease bin and threw away after i was done.

I think i'm gonna go back tonight and get more - tons of fun out at 12 midnight!

Jgroover, as you are probably aware (but in case you are not), what you are doing is illegal. You can be prosecuted for theft for doing that.

Yes i am aware. I have talked with the business owner (a friend) and they have no problem with it and said that they know the driver thats comes to pick up the grease and he woulndn't care or say anything ( i know still illegal..).

Also the business owner is welcome to it because the grease disposal company is always late in picking up the oil and usually has to call and complain that they did not empty it.

I'll eventually try to talk the owner into pouring the grease back into the cubies but i'll wait to get to know him better.

Just wanted to make sure you were aware. I have often had trouble getting the restaurant to remember to pour it into my buckets, but at the same time I figure the one time I went into the dumpster would be the one time I got arrested-knowing my luck.

dumpster diving illegal?

Haha, I'm not a bad guy and wasn't a bad kid and i've yet to have any trouble with cops (besides tickets)... so i think i'd be pretty funny to get arrested doing this ... i doubt the cops would believe it at first either... probably think i'm casing the joint or something - i'd have to let them smell my exhaust!

Has anyone had any trouble with the police while gathering grease at all? Is giong through someones garbage illegal (without the fact that the diposal co owns the bin)

When I was living in Edmond, OK somebody stole waste oil from three restaurant dumpsters. Here is the story:

http://www.boston.com/news/odd/articles/2004/05/13/oklahoma_police_looking_for_grease_thief/

If I remember correctly, I think they eventually caught the guys and charged them with burglary.
