Just finished my WVO filter system
Well i just finished it. it is my v1.0, but later i will build something larger. I can filter 5 gallons at a time and it takes around 15min. the cone filter is a 25u, then i have 2 filters inside each other that are 10u and 1u. i just pump settled wvo from my 55gallon barrel into a cube and set it on the top and leave. 15 mins later it is empty and ready for 5 more gallons. the clean wvo just drips in the steel barrel below, that i close up with a lock lid.
i live in an appartment, and have no room for storage other than my trailer. i would have done a 55g drum above another drum design, but i cant store it anywhere. Benz is running great on the Blend (90%/10%/cetane boost/Fuel Stabilizer) and is running much quieter. at what mileage did everyone who went bio or WVO get the cloged fuel filters? i am at 90 miles so far.

Looks good.
I am at v20 or so. 55 gal barrell w/ 4 6" holes thru which I place 7" ringed filters. The 4 filters hold about 3 gallons so I can empty a cube at a time. I have 3 of these barrels. I filtered 50 gallons of 2 week settled oil in 30 minutes last night.

Very cool. I sometimes get sloppy so if it were me I would paint, poly, or varnish the wood so it doesn't absorb oil.

90 miles. Hmmm. Young you are and much have you to learn before..
.. a WVO Jedi can you be.
Actually, a nice, clean setup given your limited space requirements. Nice oil, too. One caution, though---I thought I had this whipped too at 90 miles, but you will likely hit the wall around 1K as the WVO starts knocking loose any possble accumulated goo that's in your tank. If you haven't flushed the tank, you may need to later. Put some clear tubing anyplace you can to observe the dynamics of the system until the bugs are worked out. Be watchful for the classic air bubbles in the system. This is air responding to any leaks that will be revealed due to the increased friction of the heavier WVO blend. Replace all rubber hoses, use quality band-type hose clamps and expect filters to begin loading up. Carry extra filters and wrenches to change on the road. If your old style primer pump handle (which you will probably use more often than you think for the next few weeks) snaps back to the down position when you let go of it, and if your primary filter has run dry, this is proof that you tank strainer is loading up. Pull the gas cap and reverse flush the lines with compressed air if this occurs, and it will buy you more time. Once you get thru this phase, you will be able to really enjoy the benefits of WVO use. I know because I'm not there yet- the tank gets flushed this weekend. Regards,

One also may sometime hear "micron" used as a unit of pressure measurement, as in, "this vacuum pump pulls to 10 microns or better". There, it means "10 micrometers of mercury". That usage is also no longer officially encouraged. |

i was just being lazy and used the "u" for "µ". also i forgot the RUG in that 10%. it is 90% wvo/10% RUG/cetane/ and fuel stabilizer.
i have 3 sets of fuel filters in my trunk with the wrenches to swap them out incase of me getting stuck somewhere. andmoon great idea. i might build my 2.0 now. just have 4 filters like you said, and then maybe i can make another 55 drum above it that i could pump my oil into. should speed up things quite a bit. at what mileage did other WVO start having plugged filters. Nate Stanley said 1k, i heard 200 miles, or until you feel like you have no power. (or she wont start ) will make more fuel this weekend.

WOW......that's awesome!
I've been thinking of a way to do this in limited space and that's it! What do you do with the stuff that's left in the drum after you let it settle? Also, where do you get the filters? Do you have a part number? Danny

well i have not had to empty any messy barrels yet (not looking forward to it, read enough on those experiences). might sound stupid but unless i find some wood somewhere and cut it to pieces. i wont be able to mix it with sawdust. i am in a small college town, and i live in a small appartment. i was going to try and make some burning blocks, but i have no use for them. i dont know if i could sell them, and to whom. and i really dont think it would be advized to dump it in the storm drains. seems illegal. i am thinking of just going back to the restaurants that i got the oil from and dumping my crud in their big tank. it is half full of junk, and i am technically giving them free oil

Forgot to mention that you need to sit and watch the filtering as a clogged/clogging filter will not let the oil pass at a rate to keep up with the supply....which leads me to my V3 or 4..which was an attempt to vacuum up dirty oil at the rate of new filtered oil...which lead to v9 or 10 which was a pump pushing oil thru a pressurized filter housing (worked/works great but still slower than gravity feeding and uses electricity).....All roads end with as much surface area filtering as posible (sock filters) into as large a container as manuverable (55 gal barrels on dolleys/wheels) 33 gallon 'BRUTE" garbage cans on coasters and airtight lids are nice too.

Filter supply?
Where did you buy those filters? They look like giant coffee filters...
Great picks, thanks. --Hugh

Filter sites?
I found http://www.acemart.com/merchant.mv?Screen=PROD&cm_ven=CJ&Product_Code=ROYSFC10&cm_pla=10368534&cm_ite=ROYSFC10&cm_cat=16436 51
but it is tough to find out what type mesh of filter it is. What would be good? 20 micron? 50? I need this to filter before brewing bio-diesel and then straight WVO later. --Hugh
